ADMISSION TO M.A. IN

ECONOMIC POLICY MANAGEMENT

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

                                                                              

2016–2017 ACADEMIC YEAR

Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants to pursue a programme leading to the award of a Master of Arts (M.A.) Degree in Economic Policy Management in the Department of Economics, University of Ghana.

 

The Programme, which is sponsored by the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Programme (JJ/WBGSP) and the University of Ghana, seeks to offer graduate-level training in Economic Policy Management (EPM) for middle-level policy managers from African countries.

 

GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENT:

Applicants must hold a good first degree (at least a second class lower division) from a recognized University.

 

A. SCHOLARSHIP (Limited scholarships will be available this academic year):

 

  1. Applicants for scholarship must have a minimum of three (3) years work experience in the Public Sector

  2. Applicants for scholarship should not be more than forty (40) years of age;

  3. Applicants must be citizens of Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia and The Gambia;

  4. The scholarship package covers tuition fees, research allowance, medical insurance and living allowance;

  5. Lecture period is 8 am to 4:00 pm from Monday to Friday each week;

  6. Women are encouraged to apply.

 

 

B. DAY PROGRAMME (FEE-PAYING):

1. TUITION FEE:

Details can be found on the EPM Programme website (www.epm.ug.edu.gh).  Applicants will be required to pay not less than 50% of the tuition fee before the beginning of the First Semester. This 50% tuition fee is non-refundable.

 

2. LECTURE PERIOD:

The lecture period for the fee-paying Day Programme is 8:00am to 4:00 pm and runs from Monday to Friday each week.

 

 

C. EVENING PROGRAMME (FEE-PAYING):

 

1. TUITION FEE:

Details can be found on the EPM Programme website (www.epm.ug.edu.gh).  Applicants will be required to pay not less than 50% of the tuition fee before the beginning of the First Semester. This 50% tuition fee is non-refundable.

 

2. LECTURE PERIOD:

The lecture period for the fee-paying Evening Programme is 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and runs from Monday to Friday each week.

 

 

D. WEEKEND PROGRAMME (FEE-PAYING):

 

1. TUITION FEE:

Details can be found on the EPM Programme website (www.epm.ug.edu.gh).  Applicants will be required to pay not less than 50% of the tuition fee before the beginning of the First Semester. This 50% tuition fee is non-refundable.

 

2. LECTURE PERIOD:

The lecture period for the fee-paying Weekend Programme is 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Fridays and 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays.

 

NB: Applicants are encouraged to opt for fee-paying since limited scholarships will be available this academic year.

HOW TO APPLY:

1. GHANAIAN APPLICANTS:

University of Ghana application e-voucher can be obtained for GH¢180.00 at the following banks: Zenith Bank, Universal Merchant Bank, Ecobank, HFC Bank, Agricultural Development Bank, Unibank, Ghana Commercial Bank and Fidelity Bank. Applicants should follow carefully the instructions on the voucher when completing the online application form.

 

  • Applicants who did not graduate from the University of Ghana must submit the following documents online (scan and attach): 1. Bachelors’ Degree Certificate and Transcript. The transcript should be scanned into one PDF or Word document and attached to the application; Three referees’ reports required

 

  • Applicants who graduated from University of Ghana should scan and attach only their Bachelor’s degree certificates to their applications;

 

2. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS AND GHANAIANS APPLYING FROM ABROAD:

This category of applicants should use the following links to access the online application form for completion and submission:

  • All applicants are expected to pay to the University a non-refundable application processing fee of US$110.00. This fee can be paid directly or wire transferred into the University of Ghana Ecobank Account, with details:

  • The pay-in-slips together with the applicants’ certificates and transcripts should be scanned and attached to the application form before submission. The transcript should be scanned into one PDF or Word document and attached to the application.

NOTE:

  • All applicants must upload all documents requested on the online application system including their CV with their contact numbers and write-ups.

  • All applicants must print a copy of all application materials and submit to the EPM Programme Office

  • No application will be processed without proof of payment of the application fee;

  • All applicants who graduated from the University of Ghana from 1996 to date should indicate their ‘Student Identity Numbers’ on their form before submission.
